The NISDA Artist Community welcomes emerging and professional artists and educators in all fields including, but not limited to, photography, painting, ceramics, textiles, writing, music, performance and any interdisciplinary projects committed to the creative process.
As an artist resident at Nantucket Island School of Design & the Arts’ Offshore Artist’s Residency (OAR) you will have the opportunity to explore this special and truly beautiful natural landscape on an island 30 miles out to sea, which is also very rich with cultural history! Nantucket is a vibrant year-round New England community full of creative people running galleries, museums, restaurants, theaters, and non-profits of every sort! Whether you take to the studio, or head into the landscape, or our historical town to find inspiration, we hope your residency will provide you an opportunity to recharge and come away with lots of new ideas… and renewed energy.

NISDA’s Wauwinet Artist Residences offer small, medium and larger studio-living, within the beautiful, natural landscape, adjacent to NISDA Seaview Farm Art Center Studios, Lectures, Gallery. Nantucket Land Bank property, with Polpis Harbor a short distance away and Pocomo Point and Wauwinet Beaches just down the road!

In July and August additional studio space is not available at Seaview Farm due to ongoing programs of Painting, Drawing, Sculpture and Textiles. Residents in need of access to ceramics studio with Skutt electric kilns, slab roller and wheels will arrange their studio schedule with NISDA Admin/Clay Faculty. There is an additional fee for use of the studios. Clay studio has an additional lab fee which includes one 25 lb. box of clay, use of studio glazes and one complete firing.
NISDA’s residency is an independant, self-structured experience that provides time + space for personal renewal. NISDA’s residency at the Atlantic House provides live-in studios of different sizes. Access to our Seaview Farm ceramics studio can be arranged for an additional fee. Please contact islandcolony@nisda.org for more information.

The full fee will be due at the time of your residency confirmation.
The weekly residency fees vary as each studio is unique in size and shape and offers different amenities. Some artists apply for one week residencies. We encourage you to consider a longer stay if possible…additional weeks beyond the first week are discounted by 10%.

Request a Residency Exchange:
Artists may apply for a Residency Exchange for a reduction in their work-living studio fee space. OAR Artists may request a $100 reduction in their residency fee by agreeing to document their residency experience and the creative work they are doing in their live/work studio or in the landscape with photos/videos and a written press release (we can help you with this if needed) granting NISDA permission to use in future promotional materials. NISDA will have the option to submit the press release to Nantucket’s local/social media. If interested, email islandcolony@nisda.org or include a note in your application submittal.
Yes, artists may apply to share a studio (Studios #4 or #5) with another artist. Both artists need to submit individual applications. Please note: Shared studio fee: $150/wk
All live-in studios have private bathrooms with a shower. Units have an efficiency kitchenette which has a mini refrigerator, a microwave, and a kitchen sink. Units 3,4,& 5 have electric cooktops. Units 1 & 2 have use of the common kitchen for cooking. Basic kitchen equipment, dishes and utensils are supplied.
NISDA’s OAR Atlantic House is just a short mile down the road from our Historic Seaview Farm Dairy Barn and Long Shed Community Center school facilities.
All residents have access and use of a full kitchen, a community living and dining room, a laundry facility, outdoor space and parking. There is WiFi and a standard office printer available. Residents should bring their own devices or laptops to engage the internet.

There is a shared car that each resident may schedule for use to explore the island or run errands.
Nantucket Regional Transit Authority (NRTA) Shuttle buses, nicknamed The WAVE is free! It covers the island every day from late May through early October, from 7:30 am to 11:30 pm, with these exceptions: Surfside & Jetties Beaches: Service runs from mid-June through early September, 10 am to 6 pm.
Significant others, partners, companions, or adult children (18+) may accompany artists during their residency, at any time, with the understanding that the Atlantic House is a work space for creative people and that all residents and guests need to respect the need for quiet and privacy. Please select Studios #4 or #5. There is a shared studio fee of $150 per week.
Younger children are invited to accompany parent artists for one week each summer during Family Week which is July 29- August 5, 2024. Please select Studios #3, #4 or #5. There is a shared studio fee of $150 per week. You may register for children’s art courses and family friendly programs at NISDA during the week including NISDA’s 49th Annual SandCastle and Sculpture Contest at Jetties Beach on August 3.
Yes! On Wednesday Nights during the summer the NISDA community comes together for an art opening at NISDA’s Silo Art Gallery and the Cultural Arts Lecture. The Silo Art Opening begins at 6pm and the lecture follows at 7.
Yes! You may enroll in one of the many weekly course and workshop offerings at Seaview Farm Art Center during July and August months.
