Realizing that chronological age is only a timeframe, and ideas and creativity are ageless, we invite you to enroll in Teen Art Studio as well as NISDA’s Artistan’s Workshops and Technical Studios and enjoy NISDA’s Cultural Arts Lecture Series.

Note: This Summer all Teen Studios meet two times per week. Selected studios may be registered for one day per week or one week.

Expressive Image Making: Ideas and Techniques
This class utilizes examples from history to energize and inform studio practices. Images and ideas from 19th, 20th and 21st century artists will be employed as a springboard to develop skills and understanding in visual art. Focus areas will include drawing, painting and mono-printing techniques. All supplies will be provided. Please bring a notebook/sketchbook and a sense of adventure.

CLAY EXPRESSIONS: Tableware to Sculpture
Monday, Tuesday 1–4 pm
7 classes per session

class description

Using a variety of hand-building techniques, as well a working on the potter’s wheel, we will make multiple components which will then be assembled to create larger ceramic forms. We will begin with natural objects and through a creative approach and a rich imagination; we will transform these organic forms into a colorful world of whimsical day sculptures.

YOUR FASHION: Reconstructed and Creative Clothes
Monday, Tuesday 1–4 pm
7 classes per session

class description

This class will focus on creatively reconstructing your garment of choice using appliqué, silkscreen, basic sewing techniques and dye. Do you, your Mom or Dad own or seen a garment that is unwearable in size or shape but is made of great fabric? Learn how to use that fabric to create something totally new, totally YOU! Or bring an old favorite up-to-date by dyeing, adding beautiful buttons, trim, a ruffle or a print. There is no limit to the possibilities of what you can create!

High School tuition – work exchange
Teens assistants assist in classes alongside faculty preparing, maintaining studios, supplies, providing an up-close opportunity to observe the process of teaching as well as learn new techniques! In exchange, students receive course tuition, supplies and participation in Lecture Series and Events for themselves and their family or invited guest.
